Correctional Health Partners Welcomes New Director

CHP is very pleased to announce that Paul Morris, RN, CCHP, CFN, has joined us as our new Director of Business Development.  Paul comes to us from Georgia where he was the Health Services Administrator for an over 2000 bed jail.  Paul's 15 years of experience in overseeing correctional medicine services inside the jail setting brings an extremely important knowledge base to CHP in our efforts to grow the business to include jail staffing.

Paul also had a 20 year career in the US Army on active duty and reserve in various positions including a helicopter pilot, Platoon Leader, Infantry Company Commander, Infantry Battalion Executive Officer and Military Assistance Advisor to Saudi Arabian forces in the first Gulf War.  He's had some very interesting experiences during that time.

We are excited to have Paul and look forward to building a great future at CHP!

PHP and CHP Raise Funds to Support the Domestic Violence Initiative

Each year PHP and CHP employees ban together to give back to our community.  In 2011, we chose to adopt 12 families through the Domestic Violence Initiative (DVI).  DVI is Colorado's only agency dedicated to helping men, women and children with disabilities who are victims of domestic violence or caretaker abuse.

Through various employee fundraising activities, we raised enough money to deliver lots of great Christmas gifts for the kids to open and $900 worth of King Soopers gift cards so each family could enjoy a bountiful Christmas dinner.  We are also thrilled to have raised $2,500 that will go toward sustaining DVI operations and allow them to offer financial assistance, support and guidance to these victims.

Paul Morris Leads Efforts for Enhanced Mental Health Care at Muscogee County Jail

Paul Morris, Director of Business Development at Correctional Health Partners, played a key role in driving improved outcomes for mentally ill inmates at Muscogee County Jail in Columbus, Georgia.

A high percentage of individuals housed in jails and prisons are mentally ill, and about 60% of those with mental illness also have a history of drug or alcohol abuse.  Paul collaborated with jail administration and community partners on efforts to more effectively address the needs of this population and impact their ability to function successfully during and after incarceration.  In addition to expanding mental health services at the jail, Paul trained corrections officers on how to recognize mental illness, de-escalate crisis, and guide individuals to appropriate treatment.  Other key solutions in Muscogee County include a re-entry program that addresses physical, mental, and spiritual health, as well as a Mental Health Court that uses a problem-solving approach to the court process that offers treatment programs for certain individuals.

PHP and CHP Win Tug-of-War Championship

For the second year in a row, the Physician Health Partners and Correctional Health Partners team won the Downtown Denver Employee Appreciation Week tug-of-war competition.  The event is sponsored by the Downtown Denver Partnership and Kaiser Permanente and hosted by the Denver Athletic Club.

There were 21 teams participating from companies throughout downtown Denver.  The competition took place in Skyline Park, luckily right outside of our office.  We had a 10 person team and the majority of the office on the sidelines cheering them on.  We're excited to take away the championship for the second consecutive year!

Correctional Health Partners Joint Effort

In this month's issue of Corrections Forum magazine, the cover article features the Colorado Department of Corrections' innovative chemotherapy program.  The article mentions CHP several times as the healthcare services partner who helped research and implement this cost-saving program.  We're very happy to see such a successful medical program for our client, CDOC, while still saving valuable taxpayer money.  To view the article, please visit the following link: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/cc36ee6f#/cc36ee6f/1
